Dr Brenda Morrison

Brenda Morrison is a postdoctoral fellow in the Centre undertaking with Dr Eliza Ahmed and Dr Valerie Braithwaite major research into restorative interventions as a response to school bullying and other forms of violence in schools. The aim is to develop theory and practice in the development of resilience and responsible citizenship in schools.

She has studied bullying, violence and restorative justice internationally, with much of her work focusing on the regulation of safe school environments.

In March 2001, she was the sole Australian delegate at the First International Conference on Violence in School and Public Policy held at UNESCO in Paris and serves on the scientific committee for the upcoming conference in 2003, where she will give the key note address on restorative justice.

She has been involved with the development of the National Safe School Framework for the Department of Education, Science and Training and, in November of 2002, she traveled to Philadelphia, where she has been invited to direct the first international randomized trial of restorative justice in schools.

She is on the board of a new international journal that focuses directly on Violence in Schools and is also author of an upcoming book on Bullying, Violence and Restorative Justice. The book will highlight the importance of restorative processes in addressing issues as diverse as health and justice in building and sustaining a responsible and civil society.
